Shoot Day 1

Firstly our group left the ideas quite late so when it came to the actual shoot day improvisation was needed. First off the day started when we all met up and put together the equipment, tested the cameras and got the van. We had our storyboard implanted within our mind so we knew what we wanted to do but disappointingly we knew it wouldn't be enough so we had to come up with some last minute ideas. Our actors were male teenagers one we knew was cut out for the role as drama is his hobby so that gave us an advantage but the other actors were inexperienced in this field but knew exactly what they had to do, so therefore I couldn't of been that hard.  We all drove to the car park and started from there. The driver had an angry look to him making him seem fierce which was perfect as we needed our cast to maintain that thriller feel of our film. It was a grey day so the light was quite dull and gloomy which linked with the robbery emphasising the scene to make it much more life like and not unrealistic.

 Location: We had located our thriller in a car park, originally we wanted it to be deserted but because we filmed at the Saracens home ground it was very busy. We found a place behind a building where we were able to film, it was surrounded by loads of cars, patches of grass and some concrete slabs.

Props: We only had two monkey masks so we were unable to fit all three actors into one shot so we improvised by using cuts to different monkeys. We had some fake weapons that really emphasised the robbery making the surroundings dangerous as well as setting the scene. We didn't bring a bag as we forgot so instead we used the tripod case to improvise making it seem like a rare mineral was encased inside it. Overall we portrayed a lack of commitment and care as we didn't thoroughly plan what we needed in terms or props for our thriller.

Sound: We included many diegetic sounds such as the tyres screeching as well as cocking the gun. The sound of the van creates the tension as it shows how big the robbery was going to be and that getting away as soon as possible was imperative. As well as this there was the diegetic sound of the gun cocking increasing the tension as it shows how important the robbery is therefore they have to take certain precautions.

Conclusion: My role was to film as well as guide the actors. We worked well as a group but we didn't stick to the storyboard so there were a few disagreements. As well as this we were inexperienced when it came to the cameras and I had to climb a tree just to get a good panning shot of the van leaving. Consequently due to our lack of experience we re-watched the clip on the camera and recorded over it., All in all I wasn't happy with our effort as it was last minute.

Luckily we had a new idea!!!

Our Primary Research of Our Target Audience. (Analysed)

Based on the interviewees thoughts of an overall thriller and our idea to make our own action sequence, we knew that he was an ideal example of our target audience. He likes to see action, weapons, killings etc which is what we are going to try and incorporate into our thriller. He thinks our opening will be very good and he likes the idea that the first robbery is just unexpected and reveals no information whatsoever which encourages him to watch on. He expects our audience to mainly be male teenagers and above which is what we were aiming for since the start, so we will try to add all these features in our thriller so we appeal to the right audience.

We interviewed an experienced media teacher with an adequate knowledge of the thriller genre. He is into thrillers but only those specific genres such as action and conspiracies. He seems to like films with chases and plot twists. So in our thriller we will try and build up to a car chase but without the actual action so it builds up into a car chase that will engage our audience. He said he would like our thriller as it has a sort of 'Town' film feel and as he likes that film he reckons that Primate would be suitable for him. He also said that the actors are important where they're good looking or not, so it appeals to the audience. We will make sure that we use an actor who's role will appeal towards the audience.

The other male teachers all had similar opinions but we then asked a female teacher who had a different perspective to our idea and the genre. She hadn't seen many thrillers and only agreed with the male teacher as he had seen a few films. She also didn't enjoy many thrillers but said that if there was a good looking actor then she would definitely be more interested in the film. We should make sure we get the largest possible audience for our thriller to try to get more views (money if it was fully made) by using things that all these people expect.

Overall we have noted down all these expectations and are going to incorporate them into our thriller so that we achieve a widespread audience ranging from mainly males 17+ and hopefully some females as our thriller will have elements in it that would be suitable towards them.

We created a new storyboard due to the difficulties of having permission to film a robbery getaway scene in public so we are filming away from the local high streets.
