Evaluation 2: How Are Thriller Represented Social Groups

From looking at our thriller we analysed how it all ties in with the ideologies and stereotypes of the working class, minority ethnic groups and young aged males. Firstly from our research we found that these social groups are most likely to commit crimes over the middle class, elderly and females. According to surveys such as the 'National Prison', most inmates have a life of a proletariat meaning they earn their living by either manual labour or casual employment. Statistically speaking, 41% of these males have an unskilled or skilled manual profession, therefore this gave us an insight of how ones daily surroundings can escalate towards the environment where crime takes place. Young people are also watched thoroughly by society and are more likely to be convicted in court due to their inability to afford the fees of lawyers. Therefore they end up having a record, resulting in high proportions of crime with the youthful population.

The securitas robbery included three working class young men around
the ages of  20-30. They used prosthetic disguises like the ones actors
use. 

From these facts and statistics, we emphasised them in our thriller showing that young working class people are much more likely to commit crimes. Our plot uses a middle aged man as the driver (40-50). He picks up two young working class robbers who are wearing monkey masks. The masks are a disguise that not only emphasises the characters but makes them harder to identify. Our idea links with the Securitas robbery as the robbers were young working class men and they used prosthetic masks to scare their victims as well as making it more intense.

Our thriller emphasises the stereotype that young lower class social groups are the cause of crime in the UK especially as our films synopsis is about the men robbing eight different compounds.

We also based the whole perception of youth and gender around the costumes we chose. In the Dark Knight the robbers are all young men who wear black clothes and clown masks. Overall this represents maturity and that they haven't fully developed, therefore they have the incentive to use the clown mask as its much more fun and thrilling. We used the idea from this and recreated it in our thriller by using the monkey masks to show how the young working class groups have the mentality of a 'primate'. Thus, showing how their egotistical activities causes discomfort to those surrounding them.

Our New Location

For our new thriller idea most of the filming will be of the driver on his way to the compound, where he will be picking up the two robbers and so the location for this will be en route to the destination.

These are the locations of where the robbery takes place as well as the escape scene.

We are using these places as they are located in an urban area that seems like it is part of and industrialised sector due to many construction sites surrounding it. This establishes the scene and  because the compound is in a much less centralised area it shows that there would be something valuable inside
